With our new Alcon Summit Autonomous 4000 LADARVISION® Excimer laser, we are now able to perform LASIK in our office. LADARVISION uses an exclusive patented LAser RaDAR eye tracking system which actively tracks all eye movements at 4000 times per second. The beam is then continuously realigned and aimed to give you the most accurate laser treatment possible. In addition, the true "small spot" laser of the LADARVISION system has been shown to give smoother treatments; resulting in improved outcomes. Laser in-situ keratomileusis (LASIK) uses the reshaping power of the excimer laser under a surgically created hinged corneal flap. Using a special instrument called a keratome, a flap is made in the cornea and folded out of the way. The excimer laser is then applied to interior tissue of the cornea, removing microscopic layers. This flattens the central cornea over the pupil as in PRK. When completed, the corneal flap is put back into place. Your eye will hold this flap in place naturally, so sutures aren't needed. Since the corneal surface is essentially undisturbed, patients experience rapid visual recovery and minimal discomfort. This procedure can correct hyperopia (up to +4.00), myopia (up to -14.0) as well as astigmatism ( up to +5.00). LASIK (Laser In-Situ Keratomileusis)
